I only know what fascination and love I carry for this place-Chunargarh, I am not a local resident of Chunar but most likely there is Sub-Super conscious relationship with it.I have been visiting Chunar and Shitla Dham temple since class 10th AND I make sure that whenever I happen to be in VARANASI, visit these places as much as possible.I do not know whether it is the location, the road (DLW-CHUNAR road), the small shops, cycle repair shop in the way which attracts my attention.
The first when I visited Chunar I was in class X, I bunked my school and decided to discover/see the place. I rode my bicycle for 27 Kms (St John's DLW -Allahabad Road-Chunargarh) .It was a long since I did not have the knowledge.Though while returning it was a straight road and I had to travel only 17 Kms. Since then I developed my passion for this place.Later on I started visiting Shitla Dham temple also. For those who are visiting Chunar, I recommend to visit Shitla temple also. One is sure to enjoy the divine feeling and the extreme pleasure. The narrow muddy road, small shops of selling CDs,toys, bangles, pooja items .The Samosa and Gulabjamun that we in Adalpura is soul touching.
Coming to Chunar, Chunargarh is located just 45 odd kilometers from Varanasi and falls in Mirzapur district. The city has a very deep historical importance because of the Chunar Fort that stands just off the town. It is said that Maharaja Vikramaditya, the king of Ujjain established the fort of Chunar as back as 56 BC. King Sahdeo who also built a stone umbrella like cenotaph inside the fort in order to commemorate his victory over 52 different rulers later inhabited it.
Through this Blog, I want to share some pictures of Adalpura and Chunargarh which were captured in January 2011,during my visit to Benaras, my hometown.
This is the narrow road in Adalpura which heads towards the river Ganges and the Shitla Dham temple.
